Treestone Butcher London : Why Is It Thriving When Most Butcher in London Are Closing

I’ve been on a mission to highlight small businesses in London that don’t have a big PR machine behind them but are worth the journey. And today, we’re finally at Treestone Butcher in New Malden, a place I’ve been waiting to share for a long time.

I have always wanted to make a content with Treestone Butcher to show how Korean butchers are different than U.K butchers, but there was no way of contacting them as they had no social media presence.

But I made a content about their restaurant that is attached to the butcher awhile back. And I guess you guys visited all at once, cause the staff didn't know why the restaurant got so busy. And then one of our follower showed the staff, they were at Treestone cause of me. Then they realised it was cause of my video.

Still, they were barely on social media, but luckily I got one DM from them about reposting the video. So I happily said yes, and since then they started doing social media as well. And I was able to talk to the owner about doing a collaboration and talk about how Treestone butcher is special.

And this is how we ended up making a video together with the owner as well!

Why Treestone Butcher Stands Out

While many traditional butchers across the UK are slowly disappearing, Treestone Butcher in New Malden is thriving. And the reason comes down to something simple: Korean butchery is built differently.

I will go deep on what to buy at Korean butcher as well.

Inside Treestone Butcher in New Malden

More Cuts, More Detail

Where a British butcher might offer one or two versions of a cut, a Korean butcher will often make three. Even ribeye is split into two distinct parts — the “shrimp cut” and the round ribeye.

That extra level of detail gives you more choice, more flavor, and cuts you’ll rarely see anywhere else in London.

The Story Behind Treestone Butcher

But what makes Treestone truly special isn’t just the meat. It’s the story of the man behind it.

The owner began his career at London’s historic Smithfield Market, becoming the first Asian butcher to work there. It wasn’t an easy road. He faced heavy discrimination and racism, often being treated as though he didn’t belong. Sometime the workers would even ignore his existence (Him and other Black workers were treated like that back in the days) and not even give hime a chance to sell meat. But through relentless work ethic and sheer perseverance, he became one of the top salesmen at the market.

Eventually, he left to build something of his own, and that’s how Treestone Butcher was born. Today, it’s known as London’s best Korean butcher, a place where tradition, craft, and resilience come together.

Beyond the Butcher Shop

Treestone isn’t just about what you take home. Right next door, there’s a Korean BBQ restaurant.

the butcher and the restaurant is connected to each other

You can grill the meat yourself or try one of their new set menus, complete with all the banchans, and surprisingly affordable. It’s the perfect way to experience the cuts you just picked up from the counter.

But you can also order the set menu which is better value. I will write down the price down below.
