Why Katsuro London Became the Best Tonkatsu Restaurant in London
I want to first say Katsuro Tonkatsu is THE BEST in London right now. I used to say Tanakatsu in Angel is the best, but this is not even comparable. And let me tell you why.

So, my friend Sun told me that there is an brand new Tonkatsu restaurant just opened right now. Apparently, there has been a thread going around among Koreans where the owner was bringing panko bread machine from Japan cause he couldn't find the best fresh panko bread.

This went viral among Koreans and since its opening all the Koreans were raving about it including my friend, Sun. Btw, follow Sun's account if you are interested in Korean supper club. She is absolutely amazing.

Luckily, Sun was talking with the chef about a potential collaboration and mentioned me. And the chef kindly let us into his kitchen to show how it is done.
Why Is Katsuro Panko So Special?
What makes Katsuro so special is that they use wet panko which is freshly made every day. Dry panko is the one you always see in grocery stores. It lasts forever, it’s light, flaky, and great for deep frying . But fresh panko, sometimes called wet or nama panko, is different. It’s bigger, softer, holds more moisture, and gives you that delicate, beautiful crunch you can’t fake. I would say it is superior.

And the chef couldn't find wet panko anywhere in London, so he decided to bring it from Japan. And apparently it wasn't easy as the rules and regulation between Japan and U.K. is so different. Many Japanese companies denied, but he wasn't going to open without getting it right. And for him it look almost a year, but he did it. And I will talk about the taste later, but I really want to thank him for bringing great food to London.

I used to say Tanakatsu is the best in London, but now with Katsuro with the elite panko, I have to say Katsuro is the best now.

I know Wagamama has it’s place in this world especially if you have a strict dietary requirements like vegan or gluten free, but if you are simply looking for the BEST chicken katsu curry where you can read a book (and live in central London), it should have been Tanakatsu. Tanakatsu is a katsu specialty restaurant where they serve the best katsu in London (in my opinion). They also have Iberico sando similar to TOU and it was great. I still think TOU is still the best though but Tanakatsu is great as well ❤️ 📍 10 Wakley St, London EC1V 7LT 💷 Price : £20 - £30 per person 🥬 Vegan Option : ⭕️ 🥦 Gluten Free Option : ⭕️ (Please ask the staff before for gluten free options like soy sauce etc.) 🥒 Halal Meat : chicken and beef are halal #londonfood #chickenkatsucurry #londonjapanesefood #londonangel #londonrestaurants
